PGCE from University of Oxford and completion of NQT year, resulting in full qualification and being registered on the Teaching Regulation Agency (TRA) database of qualified teachers.
I specialise in secondary level Maths covering year 7 to year 13, to include GCSE and A level Maths. I can also provide primary level Maths, Maths for adult learners and 11+ examination tutoring.
Hi! My name is Karmen and I am a fully qualified Mathematics teacher who teaches at UCS and have previously taught at The Latymer School and Queen Elizabeth’s Boys School.
I completed my degree in Physics at Imperial College London before entering the Finance industry for several years working with interest rate derivatives pricing and valuations. I decided to take a short break to reconsider my future career path. I stumbled into teaching/education and found that I really enjoyed it; the satisfaction of seeing students understand a new topic, the engagement and their enthusiasm were extremely rewarding. This led me to complete my PGCE in Mathematics and become a fully-fledged Mathematics teacher. I am now focusing on private tutoring, either one to one or in small groups.
In my spare time, I enjoy running, films and theatre, trying out new restaurants and dancing.
It is often difficult to provide enough attention to each student in a class of 25-32, and I have first hand experience of this, so this is where tutoring comes in handy. In my tutoring sessions, I have two core aims:
1) To supplement the learning that has been done in class at school; either reinforcing the knowledge or teaching from scratch, if required. Once the foundation is laid, I will ensure that the student receives ample practise and challenge in the questions they do.
2) To ensure that the lessons are tailored to the student in question. It is important that the student is comfortable with the knowledge before moving on, and I will take steps to ensure that this is a smooth and stress-free experience, with the pace being set by the student. I have an abundance of teaching styles and methods and can explain in the way which is easiest for the student to understand, as all students will learn in different ways.
Of course, if your child just wants to get ahead of school and focus on other topics, or if you are an adult learner hoping to complete a Maths qualification, then these are also very welcome!
